Private Infant Adoption

Choosing an Agency

Private adoption agencies vary in their requirements and the support they provide to adoptive families. In Arizona, all prospective parents must meet certain state-mandated standards, however, each agency may also have its own criteria. As you explore your options, it’s important to find an agency whose values and approach align with your own.

Adoption Certification

The adoption certification process typically takes about 4-6 months to complete. During this time, prospective parents will submit required paperwork, attend adoption education classes, complete a detailed home study, and await the court’s decision on their eligibility to adopt.

Waiting For a Match

The waiting period for placement after certification can vary widely from a few months to several years. Factors such as the number of waiting families within the agency and your openness to different birth parent and child situations can affect how long the process takes.

The Right Fit

You have the opportunity to determine what adoption situation best fits your family. As part of the process, you’ll complete a questionnaire outlining the children you would feel comfortable adopting. Your adoption caseworker will help you understand what each option might mean for your family.

Raising Funds

Adoption costs can vary based on the type of adoption and the agency you work with, but there are several ways to help make adoption more affordable, such as employer assistance fundraising, the adoption subsidy, and the military subsidy. Our experienced team can provide more information on what options are best for your circumstances.

Open Adoption

Open adoption is increasingly recognized as beneficial for everyone involved–especially the child. The level of openness is determined by the birth parent(s). In an open adoption, both families meet before placement, share identifying information, and agree to ongoing contact. While this allows continued connection, open adoption is not shared parenting; once finalized, all parental rights legally transfer to the adoptive family.

Waiting on God’s Promise

After 18 years of waiting and trusting God’s promise, Espy and Jesse’s hearts are overjoyed to welcome their precious daughter, Jasmin Sara (meaning God’s gift and Princess), through adoption. Sixteen years ago, they believed God’s word that their daughter was coming and even bought clothes for her, yet years passed without a child. Through fertility treatments, seasons of deep loss, and the recent passing of both their fathers, they clung to hope. This past March, Espy prayed for a little girl to join their family, and just two days later, they were matched with Jasmin’s birth mother. When she began referring to them as “the baby’s parents,” it felt surreal, and they joyfully unpacked the tiny clothes kept for years, thanking God for this new season. Jasmin arrived early via emergency c-section, and Espy was in the delivery room—a faith-filled moment she will never forget. Today, Jesse and Espy treasure every moment as parents, singing “Espera el Tiempo de Dios (Wait for God’s Timing)” as a testimony that God’s promises never fail.

The Blessing of Instant Family

Carlos and Erica became an “instant family” in just one day after waiting in CFC’s Matchbook for about a year! Erica recalls the whirlwind of that day, including a mega-shopping trip to prepare for their new baby, and the surprise of sharing Itzani’s arrival with family via FaceTime, whose disbelief quickly turned to joy. Before adopting, they experienced multiple pregnancy losses, and after their last miscarriage, Carlos cried out to God, sensing His presence and reassurance that their prayers had been heard. Pouring out their hearts in prayer, they asked God for a child through adoption, and when Itzani’s birth mother chose them the day after her birth, their hope was fulfilled. They named her Itzani, meaning “not easily broken,” as a symbol of enduring faith, and they cherish the ongoing connection with her birth mother, hoping she will always be a part of their daughter’s life.

Kirk and Stephanie first learned about Christian Family Care through friends who were foster parents and initially explored adopting an older child, but they paused to process grief from infertility and seek healing. With courage and faith, they later felt God leading them to infant adoption, and after six months in the MatchBook, they received the call they had been praying for: a birth mother who had just given birth wanted to meet them. Stephanie flew in immediately, and the connection with Baby Noah was instant. Despite a rough start in the NICU, Noah is now thriving at home, and Kirk, who once worried about bonding, knew the moment he held him: “This is my son.” Just a week before Noah’s arrival, the couple celebrated eight years of marriage, and today they give thanks to God for His faithfulness, patience, and the joy of becoming parents through adoption.

Thus, we cannot guarantee that funds will exclusively support the selected family. Donations to the CFC AdoptFund are final and non-refundable.

At Christian Family Care, we provide expectant parents with compassionate support, including counseling and help with medical care, housing, and pregnancy expenses.

We carefully match babies with loving families and provide ongoing post-adoption support to ensure the best outcome for everyone involved.
