Set Up an Exploration Meeting Today!

Every young person deserves the chance to discover who God has created them to be! An important part of any youth’s positive development is having the opportunity to explore their interests, talents, and passions. These opportunities allow youth to understand themselves better and discover what path they would like to pursue in life.

Our agency is looking for Pathfinders from the Christian faith community willing to share their own interests, talents, or hobbies with a young person in the foster care system through a one-time, supervised Exploration Meeting. These meetings, facilitated by a Christian Family Care (CFC) staff member familiar with the youth, typically last anywhere from 1-3 hours or more, depending on your proposed activity, and would center around the exploration of a specific topic that youth has expressed interest in learning more about.

Examples of a typical Exploration Meeting include:

  • Tour of your office & workspace
  • Hands on demonstration of a hobby
  • Conversation over a meal
  • Visiting a community location, such as museum or sports field
  • Virtual meetings are possible as well

*Anything you would want to teach your own child could be a great experience for a youth in Foster Care

As the meetings themselves are attended by a CFC staff member, there is no prior training or experience needed and minimal paperwork is required. Once an inquiry is received, a CFC staff member will reach out to you to schedule a short, 20-minute phone conversation to learn more about the interest you wish to share.

This is an invitation to anyone who has a heart for supporting a young person in foster care and a talent to share. For any questions you may have about our Pathfinder program email our mentor coordinator, Darwin Diaz at ddiaz@cfcare.org.

FAQs

What is a Pathfinder?

A Pathfinder can be anyone who wants to volunteer their time to meet with a young person in the foster care system to share a their expertise, common interest or passion with the youth. This is a one-time meeting where the Pathfinder and youth can meet and perhaps spark inspiration for the youth. The hope is for the youth to learn something new and perhaps discover what path they would like to pursue in life.

Who provides transportation for the youth?

Our CFC staff member will transport the youth to and from the meeting and will attend the meeting with the youth.

What is an Exploration Meeting?

An Exploration Meeting is a one-time, supervised session that can last anywhere from one hour to one work day. The meeting duration depends on what activity the pathfinder would like to do with the youth. For example, if the Pathfinder would like to teach the youth how to cook a meal, that may take one to two hours. If the Pathfinder would like to take the youth on a tour of their work office or shadow them for the work day that may take longer. These details will be discussed and coordinated between the Pathfinder and the CFC staff member once the potential Pathfinder fills out the online application. For any additional questions you may have about our Pathfinder program email our mentor coordinator, Darwin Diaz at ddiaz@cfcare.org.
