Adoptable Youth

Adoptable Youth

Boys and girls in the Arizona foster care system have often been wounded by neglect, abuse, or abandonment. Your commitment to love and care for them can begin their healing. The rewards for parents who are called to open their homes and hearts to a child in foster care are tremendous.

For more than 40 years, CFC has helped families like yours connect with adoptable youth who are in need of a forever family. From the first steps in exploring adoption to the big steps in welcoming home a child, we are there every step of the way, connecting lives, hearts, and futures. See when our next free adoption orientation session is here.

Steps to Becoming an Adoptive Family

What is required to adopt through Christian Family Care?

We are committed to ensuring adoptive families can provide the stable, loving, Christian home that a child needs to live the happy life God intends for all.

Requirements from Christian Family Care to Adopt a child:

  • You must live in the State of Arizona
  • You must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith
  • You must be actively involved in a church for a minimum of six months.
  • Must be able to obtain a reference from a pastor or other leader from your local church
  • If married, you should be married for at least two years
  • Some age restrictions may apply
  • Want to adopt a child who is at least seven years old
What is involved in becoming certified to adopt?

Contact us to start the process!

Our Recruitment Coordinator will answer your questions, request a brief application, and have you review our Statement of Faith and share your testimony. Start by contacting: HelpKids@cfcare.org

An Adoption Specialist will meet with you in person at your home or our office to learn more about your call to adoption, review the paperwork required for your home study, and answer your questions.

Attend adoption training

We have developed a six-week series just for our adoptive families called DCS Adoption Boot Camp. In these classes, you’ll learn all about how kids are matched with adoptive families, the impact of trauma on children, how grief and loss is experienced by children and adoptive families, trauma-informed parenting strategies, the role of attachment in trauma and adoption, and how to help children with their adoption identity.

Complete a home study assessment

At CFC we want our families to thrive in their adoption journey so we dive deep with you and explore your own childhood experiences, your marital relationship (as applicable), your finances, social history, health, and more.

We will support you through the whole process, offer services for any areas that need attention, and help you make an informed decision for your family about the type of children God is calling you to adopt.

Get certified by the Juvenile Court in your county of residence

After the training and assessment, we’ll write a home study summarizing all the information and submit it to the court in the county you reside.

The Judge then approves or denies the application, not CFC.

What happens after I’m certified to adopt? When will I have a child in my home?

Once your certification is approved by the Court, then our work really begins here at CFC!

Christian Family Care will share profiles of children seeking a forever family that fit your child desired parameters.

The goal is to find the best family for the child – to match you with a child that you can give the best opportunity of healing to.

The process can take time

It depends a lot on what child you’re equipped to parent as well. The more open you are in the age range of children, the behaviors you can parent through, and the needs of children who have experienced neglect, abuse, and other trauma, the more likely we are to match you to a waiting child.

The Department of Child Safety Specialist ultimately decides which family is selected to adopt a child. They are looking for which family can best meet the child’s emotional, social, physical, intellectual, safety, and mental health needs.

Some families are matched within a few weeks of being certified and others wait years.

Why does Christian Family Care advocate for open adoption?

We believe open adoption is best for everyone involved. The degree of openness in an adoption varies from family to family. Families may support children staying in contact with siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, or their birth parents.

Why does CFC only certify families that want to adopt older children? I’ve heard there are lots of younger children that can be adopted too.

Our mission at CFC is to see every child in a Christ-centered home and that means focusing on the children least likely to find a forever home.

Over 80 percent of the children whose case plan changes to adoption, will be adopted by relatives or their foster family. We know that younger children are placed with relatives or a foster family most frequently when they enter care so they typically have someone willing to say yes when they need an adoptive home. Children 7 and older are at least 7 times more likely to be placed in a group home, with no family waiting to say YES when their case plan changes to adoption.
